We will cover the 4th and final type of EMF that the building biology profession recognizes as so-called “Dirty Electricity”, also known as Electromagnetic Interference, or EMI. Dirty electricity is the magnetic and electric fields emitted into living spaces from higher harmonic frequencies, above the fundamental frequency of house wiring at 60 Hz. Dirty electricity is generated by a number of devices and may cause health symptoms in people often going under-diagnosed. Learn about these and strategies to reduce them renovation and new construction. This is the 5th part of our ongoing session called Reducing occupant exposure to EMFs in residential construction series. *Note you do not need to watch these in any order.
Lessons Learned
- Know the sources of unhealthy dirty electricity EMFs
- Articulate the health impacts of dirty electricity EMFs
- Understand strategies to prevent dirty electricity EMFs
- Reiterate how dirty electricity fits in with other types of EMFs
