If Building Material Reuse is as old as buildings themselves, why isn’t it the standard now? Is waste just a by-product of bad design? Why is a 2×4 from virgin lumber cheaper than a reclaimed one? Explore these and other questions about the reuse of building materials with Joe Connell, Executive Director of the nations only membership organization dedicated to the support of this growing industry. Our goal will be to better understand what is available, how to work with the challenges of used materials, and how to educate your clients and customers about the benefits of reuse. This course is tailored to folks in the building industry from design through construction. Helping all to better understand the challenges and opportunities.

Joe Connell is the new Interim Executive Director of the Building Material Reuse Association. He previously led the Portland Metro Habitat ReStores for 12 years leading that organization to become one of the largest and most well-respected reuse retail operations in the nation. Prior to that, he spent about 20 years in the construction industry as a remodeler and cabinet maker. He now lives with his wife on a small offshore island in Downeast Maine in a 150-year-old home. When not at the computer he is either walking the shore, or in the kitchen. He also is a proud kilt wearer, quilt maker, and gardener. Favorite quote: “I wake up every morning determined both to change the world and have one heck of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning the day a little difficult.” E.B. White
