The Michigan Home Energy Rebate Program, or MIHER, can help you access up to $34,000 in rebates that come off the top of the cost of home energy-saving upgrades, such as

  • Heating and Cooling
  • Water Heater
  • Heat Pumps
  • Insulation
  • Air Sealing
  • Appliances
  • Electrical systems
  • EV Charger
  • Ventilation

The amount you can qualify for depends on your household income, family size, and the shape of your home.

The first step is to check whether you qualify for the program on the ClearResult website, after which you can submit your application.

Homeowners, landlords, and renters may apply, or a resource navigator may assist with an application and submission.

Please download and review the documentation needed here for your application

These will include proof of family income, proof of ownership or rental, and/or proof of a pre-qualifying program.

Upon submission, you will receive an email from mienergyrebates@support.clearesult.com either requesting additional information or approving your submission, so make sure you check your email or spam inbox for a notification from that address.

Upon approval, you will get an email titled “Your MI Home Energy Rebates Program Income Qualification Application #00000##### (11 digits) has been approved”

In the email body, you must look for the term Enhanced or Standard*. Enhanced means you are approved for the full $34,000, and Standard means you will receive much less, but still more than most utility programs. If you receive a standard and believe it was an error, you may reply to mienergyrebates@support.clearesult.com to request an appeal.

In the email body, you will receive a different 11-digit code, such as 0000#######, which you can use for your contractor code approval.

If you received approval for enhanced, the GreenHome Institute may be able to assist you. Please send your approval letter to Brett.Little@greenhomeinstitute.org. We will assist you with the next step: finding an approved MIHER Home Energy Auditor to complete your audit and a local contractor to assist with the work.

From there, the auditor will schedule a 1 – 2 hour site inspection to complete the energy audit for your home and determine what you need to have upgraded, what your energy cost savings would be, and what measures you may qualify for.

GHI will also assist you in determining other financial resources and benefits you may receive outside the MIHER program, in addition to.

Upon completion of the audit, GHI will help you find a contractor to assist you with the upgrades. If you have a contractor you like to work with, or you are a contractor yourself who wants to participate, you or they may apply and be approved to work in the program here.

From there, GHI will help you determine the work score and the best way to improve your home.

*Please note that for standard approval, most MIHER Auditors and Contractors right now are not serving you as they face a backlog on enhanced applications. If GHI finds a contractor willing to help, we will let you know, and you can continue to contact MIHER to find help.
